Denver Thanksgiving Outreach Event Includes Art Sales by the Unhoused
Corporate Sponsor Integrity Fencing Encourages Donations and Volunteers
Denver, Colo. – Local churches and businesses are coming together again this year to provide a Thanksgiving outreach event to those experiencing homelessness in Denver. The City and County of Denver, along with David Clifton Ministries, is hosting the event. The unhoused are invited to a community-wide event in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. At this event, unhoused individuals can receive help in several different ways.
On Saturday, November 9, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Denver City Hall building adjacent to Civic Center Park, volunteers from local churches and businesses will distribute food boxes and clothing items and even provide haircuts and a bike repair station. Denver City Hall is located at 1437 Bannock Street, Denver, 80204.
This year, a new initiative will be introduced to the event. An art gallery of works created by the unhoused will be for sale, with the proceeds going directly back to the artist to assist them in earning an income. This initiative is sponsored by the non-profit art community Redline Contemporary Art Center, which is dedicated to supporting emerging artists and providing creative opportunities for local residents. Redline works to provide equitable access to the arts for under-resourced populations and grassroots organizations.
According to a survey conducted by the Metro Denver Homelessness Initiative released on August 14, 2024, 9,977 people were counted as experiencing homelessness in the Denver Metro area in 2024, a ten percent increase from last year’s count. More than six thousand people, or 65 percent, of those counted were in the City and County of Denver.
Integrity Fencing & Supply Company, a Littleton-based fencing and decking contractor, is a corporate sponsor of the event. Owner Shawn Beard is the external church coordinator for the event and seeks to involve other churches in this impactful community event. In addition, staff from Integrity Fencing will be volunteering during the event. “We are excited to sponsor and help out at this event again this year,” said Shawn Beard. “Last year, we served over 2,400 meals to those in need. Giving back to the community is a large part of our company mission.”
Shawn and the other volunteers encourage monetary donations to help ensure there are enough goods to provide to those in need. People can also volunteer their time that day. To make a tax-deductible donation, contact David Clifton Ministries. To sign up to volunteer, contact Shawn Beard at denvercityoutreach@yahoo.com.
